The European Orienteering Championships 2012 continued today with Long distance in Orsa, Sweden. Yesterday’s winner and Long distance World Champion 2010, Olav Lundanes, Norway, again showed excellent performance leading the race throughout.

European Orienteering Championships long distance final takes place today in Dalarna, Sweden.
Olav Lundanes did his most perfect middle distance race ever, but the newly crowned European champion would have wished that also Thierry Gueorgiou had taken part.
Simone Niggli is mother of three small children and today again the best orienteer in the world. The Swiss is in fact better than ever. “I have had very good co-operation with Vroni König-Salmi recently. She has given new input in my training”, Simone says.
Simone Niggli is certainly back. In her first international championship since 2010 she showed that she’s as strong as ever by winning the European Championships middle distance with a margin of 1.25 before Minna Kauppi, Finland, on second place.
Olav Lundanes, Norway, didn’t give anyone else a chance on the European Orienteering Championships middle distance: he led the race from start to finish, and finally won the competition with 1.19 minutes’ marginal to defending European Champion Valentin Novikov, Russia.
